flower hood vs lens hood for 18-55mm 550D?
Hi, I am a rookie in photography and from the 5 or so forums I read, a lens hood is a good idea.
I am getting a Canon 550D with an 18-55mm lens. Would you recommend a flower hood or a collapsible lens hood? Any specific ones to recommend?

I always get Canon’s hood for my lenses. Yes, they are more expensive. But they’re designed specifically for the lens. The risk you face with a third party hood is that it might either show some vignetting or perform less than optimally in blocking unwanted light. Wide angle lenses (e.g., 18mm) are trickier.
