are minolta af lenses compatible sony alpha?

i know a-mount minolta lenses are, but are AF-mount lenses compatible?

For the Sony Alpha you will see the terms A mount, AF mount, MAF mount, Alpha mount, Minolta AF mount. The correct term is “A mount”.

A few years ago Sony acquired the camera division of Konica-Minolta. Minolta had been producing auto-focus SLRs from around 1985 when the A mount was introduced along with the new auto-focus SLRs. Prior to this the Minolta line were manual focus on the MD and MC mounts, these will not work without an adapter, so avoid them.

EVERY Sony/Minolta A mount lens will work on EVERY Sony dSLR. It will meter and auto-focus correctly.

Many Minolta A mount lenses have 5 electrical contacts, newer Minolta and of course Sony lenses have 8 contacts. The increase from 5 to 8 contacts was (mostly) to enable ADI for improving the way that the flash measures the distance to the subject. So don’t be concerned if you see Minolta lenses that have 5 contacts, it really doesn’t matter.
